When she starts running into a string of her ex-boyfriends in Chinatown, she is forced into confrontation with who she has been. Seeing and interacting with her exes forces Lola not only to confront the innumerable men with whom she has been involved, but the ways in which she has feared and fled love and commitment throughout her life. The novel explores themes including identity, closure, and autonomy.
