Throughout her time with the Moulinards and their leader Pascal Balmy, Sadie tries to satisfy the terms of her assignment. However, the longer she is in the Guyenne Valley the more she begins to question who she is and what she wants for her future. Written from Sadie's first-person point of view, the novel explores themes including identity, community, and longing.
