Cosmopolis is a novel by Don DeLillo set in New York City over the course of a single day in April in the year 2000. It follows wealthy 28-year-old capital trader Eric Packer as he conducts business from his limousine on his way to get a haircut. Anti-capitalist protests begin to erupt on the streets, and Eric quickly becomes disillusioned with his life and work. He desperately searches for meaning through acts of anarchy and self-sabotage. The novel explores themes of nihilism, capitalism, anarchy, intimacy, and alienation.
