Congratulations, by the Way: Some Thoughts on Kindness Overview
Congratulations, by the Way is a slightly expanded and altered version of a commencement speech given by author George Saunders at Syracuse University. The speech was given on May 11, 2013. In this speech, Saunders advocates for the idea that kindness and love towards others is the most important aspect of the life of any individual. Saunders states that although people generally grow kinder with age and personal experience, people should focus on being proactive in their own process of increasing the roles of love and kindness in their actions and outlooks. This piece explores themes of kindness, ambition, and aging.
