Close to Home Overview
Close to Home, by Robert Dugoni, is a supense novel with Tracy Crosswhite as the main character. While investigating a hit-and-run accident that killed a young black boy, Tracy discovers a conspiracy linked to a rash of heroin deaths in Seattle. The investigation into the death leads to the discovery of a large drug ring. Tracy's journey takes her into lives of parents who desperately want to save their children from an almost certain overdose if their children continue using drugs. Each grieving parent is a reminder of the same grief Tracy's own parents suffered when her younger sister, Sarah, disappeared. Tracy wonders if she and husband Dan are, perhaps, blessed by their inability to conceive. Themes in the novel include racial inequality in the justice system, the causes and effects of the heroin epidemic, and the psychological impacts of losing a child.
