After the owl-baby Chouette is born, Tiny tries to convince her husband to love Chouette the way she is. However, Tiny's husband's determination to fix Chouette threatens to break Tiny's will and quash Chouette's true nature and spirit. A work of magical realism, the novel explores themes including motherhood, memory, and loneliness.
