Chicago: A Novel Overview
Chicago is a novel by Brian Doyle. It takes place in Chicago, Illinois, around the year 1980. The unnamed protagonist is a recent college graduate who moves to Chicago. He lives in an apartment building and works for a newspaper for about 15 months, and during that time, he grows to love the city, forming profound bonds with Chicago and several of its residents. The novel explores themes of civic identity, love, friendship, maturation, and adventure.
