Cherry Overview
Cherry is a novel by Nico Walker. The story’s protagonist is a young man from Cleveland, Ohio who decides to join the army during the Iraq War. His experiences in Iraq cause to him develop post-traumatic stress disorder and ever-worsening drug addictions, which cause his life to enter an extreme downward spiral after he returns to America. The novel explores themes of trauma, addiction, relationship dysfunction, personal agency, and the absurdity of militarism.
