Capital in the 21st Century Overview
Thomas Piketty's book, Capital in the Twenty-First Century, is a study of the history and dynamics of wealth distribution and inequality. It mixes economic, historical, social, and political sources and approaches. For this work, Piketty gathered the most comprehensive series of wealth and income data yet made, gathering records from as far back as the eighteenth century. Although Piketty presents his work as a professional economist, his topic is of deep concern to the general population as well as the field of economics. The work tackles themes of democracy, the logic of capital, statistical data, inequality, and the social role of academics.
