Cantoras Overview
Cantoras is a novel by Carolina de Robertis. The story follows the adult lives of five lesbian women in Uruguay. In their young adulthoods, in the 1970s, Uruguay is under a military dictatorship, and the group bonds together under their shared secrecy. Although the dictatorship dissolves in the 1980s, the women in the group still carry significant wounds from their past into the future. This novel explores themes such homosexuality, politics, art, and civil disobedience.
