Calypso Overview
Calypso is a collection of darkly humorous essays written by David Sedaris. Described on the book jacket as "cheerfully misanthropic" these essays focus on elements of the few years in and around 2015-2018. In particular, the essays cover David's bi-annual visits to the United States where his family gets together at a beach house he has recently purchased on Emerald Isle, North Carolina, where they used to holiday as children. As he writes about everything from family life to politics, Sedaris covers themes of middle-age and aging, family dynamics, death and mortality, navigating differences, and finding the beautiful in the broken.
