Braiding Sweetgrass Overview
Robin Wall Kimmerer's non-fiction book, Braiding Sweetgrass, is a collection of musings on the relationship between human beings and the natural world, with a particular focus on the comparison between indigenous communities' and non-indigenous communities' perspectives on nature. Each chapter is an exploration into a theme, a story, or a question, and Kimmerer weaves together her experience as a professor of environmental biology and her experience as an indigenous woman and American citizen. She explores themes such as motherhood, gratitude, animacy and more as she provides both scientific and indigenous explanations for natural phenomena and human observations of them.
