Bluets Overview
Maggie Nelson’s genre-defying poetic memoir, Bluets, is composed of 240 “propositions” written over a three-year period. The poem traces Nelson’s struggle with depression while reflecting on a painful breakup and an accident that leaves a close friend paralyzed. Nelson uses her love of the color blue as a lens to tackle themes including love, depression, perception, time, truth, art, mental health, suicide, and the search for meaning.
