Blood on the Tracks: A Novel Overview
In the novel Blood on the Tracks by Barbara Nickless, Iraq War veteran Sydney Rose Parnell hoped she would leave her ghosts behind her when she came home from war. Instead, her ghosts multiplied when she was called to help investigate the murder of a family friend, Elise Hensley. Called face-to-face with her own wrong-doing in the war, Parnell was motivated to blame a fellow Marine in order to cover up what she had done. As she wrangled with her guilt and fear, Parnell learned the real killer was someone closer to Elise than Parnell could have believed possible. Themes in the novel include the strength of loyalty, life with PTSD, and the identity of true evil in the world.
