Everything you need to understand or teach Batter My Heart, Three-personed God by John Donne.
"Batter my heart, three-personed God" is a sonnet by early modern English poet John Donne. The poem is considered one of Donne's "Holy Sonnets," a series of 19 sonnets written to and about God. It was originally published in the posthumous 1633 collection of Donne's poetry entitled Songs and Sonnets. Of all the Holy Sonnets – also known as the Divine Meditations or Divine Sonnets – "Batter my heart" is likely the most famous. It showcases Donne's interest in metaphysical themes as well as his reliance on paradox within his devotional lyrics.
