In Jennifer Saint's novel Ariadne, King Minos of Crete's daughters Ariadne and Phaedra are desperate for agency over their own lives. Therefore, when the handsome prince of Athens, Theseus, arrives in Crete as one of Minos's tributes to their half bull brother, the Minotaur, they decide to help him escape.
