Anna and the French Kiss Overview
In Stephanie Perkins' young adult novel, Anna and the French Kiss, Anna Oliphant's father sends her to boarding school in Paris for her senior year of high school. Anna is devastated to leave behind her best friend (Bridge) and her crush (Toph). She feels out of place and alone in a foreign country where she does not speak the language. After Anna meets a boy who becomes her best friend, everything changes. When she goes back to the States for Christmas break, she no longer feels at home where she grew up. Anna cannot wait to get back to Paris. She soon realizes that she is in love with her new best friend. The only problem is that now he has a girlfriend. As Anna seeks to learn more about herself, the novel explores the concept of home, parents, international relations, friendship, and dreams.
