Alone is a novel by Megan E. Freeman. Maddie is a young girl on the cusp of becoming a teenager who lives with her parents and stepparents in Colorado. She has struggled to feel accepted in her family since her parents divorced and remarried, bringing step-siblings and half-siblings into her life. When a mysterious threat causes everybody to evacuate, Maddie is left behind and must find a way to survive on her own with only a dog for company. The novel explores themes of home, grief, regret, sibling bonds, and memory.
