Alma Overview
“Alma” is a short story by Junot Diaz. It was originally published in the New Yorker in 2007. A slightly revised version of the story was then published in Junot Diaz’s short story collection This is How You Lose Her in 2012. Alma follows the relationship between Yunior and Alma, two students at Rutgers University. Yunior and Alma are both of Dominican heritage, but their interests and personalities are generally incompatible. Their relationship ultimately ends when Alma discovers that Yunior has been having a sexual relationship with another student.
