Adèle Overview
Leila Slimani's novel, Adèle, follows the titular character as she struggles to cope with her compulsive sex addiction. A married woman with a son and a job at a newspaper in Paris, Adèle seemingly has everything a woman could want. But she leads a secret life in which she engages in obsessive and anonymous sex with anyone she can. When the truth about her comes out, her world is altered forever, as is the world of her husband, Richard, a doctor who takes it upon himself to save her. The novel explores motherhood, addiction, nihilism, sexuality, and salvation.
