Adultery Overview
Paulo Coelho's novel, Adultery, is the story of Linda, a Swiss woman in her thirties, who suffers from depression and low self-esteem even though, on the surface, her life is perfect. In order to cure herself, she takes a big risk that moves her outside of her marriage; she commits adultery. As the relationships continues with both her husband and her lover, she realizes that her lover gives her an unsustainable high while she and her husband have the basis of real love that grows with work. The narrative address themes associated with self-fulfillment, taking risks, morality, love, and depression.
