Jakob Guanzon's novel Abundance tells the story of an ex-convict, Henry, and his eight-year-old son, Junior. Eight months after being evicted from their home and moving into Henry's truck, the father and son do everything in their power to stay alive. Henry is desperate to care for Junior and to prove his love, but is constantly plagued by feelings of failure. Then one day when Junior becomes sick, Henry knows the only way to help him is to steal medicine from Walmart. Despite the potential consequences, Henry has no other choice. The novel explores themes including loss, helplessness, and marginalization.
