Set in modern day Kolkata, Megha Majumdar's debut novel, A Burning, tells the story of three intertwined lives in the wake of a terrorist train attack. Through the points of view of her protagonists Jivan, PT Sir, and Lovely, Majumdar explores themes involving the power of societal pressures, and the ways in which the individual fights for freedom by discovering and claiming her voice.
