Summary
Alicia writes in the diary that her husband Gabriel gave her for the first time on July 14th. She says she prefers pictures over words, but Gabriel believes that writing will help cure her depression. She admits she feels better already and wants to prove to him that she is okay. She says she loves him wholeheartedly, but stops her sentence short and tells herself she will only write normal, non-crazy things.
Part one then begins with a quote by Sigmund Freud addressing the idea that secrets are impossible to keep, even by those who do not speak.
The narrator says that Alicia was 33 when she killed Gabriel seven years into their marriage. Both were artists. Alicia a painter and Gabriel a fashion photographer. However, the narrator believes that Alica’s work is better than Gabriel...
