Armand Gamache
Armand Gamache is a well respected detective that has achieved some success throughout his career. He has received many commendations however these stopped after a previous case and since this case his career has stalled. This does not worry him as he is happy with his position and cares more about spending time with his wife. He does not begrudge his boss, Superintendent Brébeuf, who was promoted to a position he also applied for. He is well respected by his team and especially by Beauvoir.
Rather than being desensitized to murder and violence, Gamache states that ‘violent death still surprised him.’ He secretly wishes every time he gets a call for a case that there is a mistake and there is no dead body.
