Preview of The Blue Sword Summary:
The Blue Sword is an appealing novel on many levels. The narrative is at once a fantasy set in an imaginary realm, an adventure tale, and a story of growing up. The protagonist, Harry Crewe, is a complex and convincing character, an orphan girl who becomes heir to a mythic magical blue sword.
The many minor characters who become involved in her subsequent quest are also well drawn. The landscapes of the two feuding domains where the action takes place are depicted in evocative language, but although these settings are imaginary, the ideas represented apply to the real world as well.
Here we encounter the qualities of loyalty, courage, love, and honor as well as the theme of family relationship and the challenge of fulfilling one's destiny.
