American mathematician who contributed to the advancement of geometric methodology. Earning a doctorate from the University of Chicago, Weiss focused on trigonometric series. She taught at DePaul University, Washington University, and Stanford University. Weiss proved assumptions her colleagues had developed regarding harmonic analysis. She then concentrated on Hardy spaces in higher dimensions. A National Science Foundation postdoctoral fellowship enabled Weiss to conduct research for a year at Cambridge University. She taught briefly at the University of Illinois before her death.
