Whose Life Is It Anyway?
Summary: Despite the fact that Ken, the main character, spends the whole of the play confined to bed, what makes "Whose Life is it Anyway" an intriguing and entertaining play for the audience? Because of the development of Ken as an appealing character and the controversial issues of euthanasia and medical ethics that the play raises.
The play `Whose Life is it Anyway"' is about Ken, a quadriplegic sculptor reliant on medical support to keep him alive. It focuses on the controversial euthanasia debate, as well as incorporating questions about medical ethics and morals.
The play is set in a hospital, and features people in the medical profession and one of their patients as main characters. The characters do use medical terms in their dialogue, and it is clear that it is a hospital drama of sorts. The action takes place in various parts of the hospital, including Ken's ward and the offices of the medical staff, and the road outside of it.
However, almost straight away from the beginning you realise that this is not an ordinary hospital drama. Ken is amusing, but most of his jokes are either loaded with sexual innuendo or are at his own expense. Whose Life is...
