Second-baseman Roberto Alomar of the Baltimore Orioles has established himself as one of the best players at his position in the history of baseball. Eight times he has been named to the All-Star Game and twice he helped lead his former team, the Toronto Blue Jays, to World Series championships. Despite his excellent play, Alomar forever tarnished his image in 1996 when he lost his temper and spit on an umpire.
Roberto Alomar was born in Salinas, Puerto Rico, on February 5, 1968. He was one of three children of Sandy, a major league baseball player, and Maria Alomar. Because their father was away eight months of the year playing baseball, the children were raised by their mother.
