Hey Kiddo: How I Lost My Mother, Found My Father, and Dealt with Family Addiction is a graphic young adult memoir by Jarrett J. Krosoczka. Hey Kiddo tells the lived experience of the author as the child of a drug addicted mother and absent father. Young Jarrett is raised by his two caring - but opinionated - grandparents, Joe and Shirley, while his mother is in and out of jail and recovery. The memoir tells the author’s personal biography growing up in Worcester Massachusetts, and how he finds his way through art. He also finds his father and on the way, figures out what family means to him. This memoir explores the themes of Ghosts, Addiction, Regret, Art as Solace, and What is a Family.
