Enrique’s Journey is a national best-selling nonfiction book by American journalist and author Sonia Nazario. The narrative follows 17-year-old Enrique, an undocumented immigrant from Honduras, and his search for his mother in the United States. Enrique’s mother Lourdes had moved to the U.S. when Enrique was five in order to raise enough money for her family. After spending months interviewing and traveling alongside Enrique, Nazario published an award-winning series in the Los Angeles Times that was later developed into this book. Enrique’s Journey explores topics and themes of child migration, political and stereotypical perceptions of undocumented immigrants in the United States, and the impacts of family separation.
