On Caitlin O’Koren’s 16th birthday, she learns that her 18-year-old sister, Cass has run away. Caitlin’s birthday is forgotten as her parents try to find Cass. Eventually, Cass calls and lets her family know she is with her boyfriend, Adam. Caitlin starts her junior year of high school lost and is not sure where she belongs. Her sister was always the popular, talented one, and Caitlin does not know how to fill her sister’s shoes. Caitlin’s best-friend Rina convinces her to try out for cheerleading, and she starts dating a bad boy named Rogerson Biscoe. Caitlin feels like she is drowning and losing herself, especially when her boyfriend starts hitting her. Rogerson is caught hurting her, and Caitlin receives help at a recovery center. When she returns home and reunites with her family and sister, she realizes that she will not drown, and she will find her way in life.
