American Street is a debut coming-of-age novel by Haitian-American author Ibi Zoboi. This first-person narrative follows the story of 16-year-old Haitian immigrant Fabiola Toussaint. Fabiola comes to America to live with her aunt and cousins in urban Detroit. Fabiola struggles not only to acclimate to the cultural differences of her new life, but she also becomes disoriented by the moral ambiguities present in the lives of those around her. The novel explores themes of family, culture, love, and morality.
