Amal Unbound Overview
Inspired by the 2012 shooting of Malala Yousafzai in the Swat Valley region of Pakistan, Amal Unbound addresses author Aisha Saeed’s Pakistani heritage and the unfortunate reality faced by countless innocents forced into indentured servitude globally. Set in the impoverished Pakistani village of Nabay Chak, Amal Unbound follows Amal’s experience as a young, female, indentured servant under Jawad Sahib, a powerful, wealthy, and merciless man. Saeed confronts, among others, themes of sexism, knowledge, and power.
